The Transfiguration and Birthing of the Cosmic Christ 12/30/2022 |
Yesterday we considered how we all give birth to the Cosmic Christ not unlike how Mary gave birth at Christmas time. We meditated on Thomas Merton’s words that the Creator “speaks to us gently in ten thousand
things....He shines not on them but from within them.” |
One dramatic occasion when Jesus “shone from within” was the experience recalled in the Gospels that is named the “Transfiguration.” It
happened when three of Jesus’s friends accompanied him to a mountain top and saw dazzling light emanating from him. (Mk 9.2-9) It was an experience we all can have on occasion, taking in the radiance of all creatures and
all creation. | “Transfiguration.” Plaque by Ullrrich Javier Lemus. From the Stations of the Cosmic

Surely Webb telescope assists us with that spiritual practice to take in the light of the heavens. We can experience the Blinding One in the people we meet and the beings we encounter--in all our relations therefore. In all those beings who reveal themselves to us whether in daytime or in nighttime. In nighttime it is usually the “heavens,” the sky, the cosmos that reveals itself to us. Darkness renders the lights bright. |
“Behind the painfear etched on the faces Something is shining like gold but — better…” Canadian folksinger Bruce Cockburn performs "Rumours of Glory” at Elizabethtown. | In daytime it is usually the Earth and her creatures, the city and its wonders, our workplaces and relaxing places that reveal themselves to us and shine from within. If, as Mary Oliver advises us,
we |
pay attention and then pay attention some more. One of the many universal meanings and archetypes of Christmas is that we ourselves are born or reborn as other Christs. That we come alive as sons and daughters of the Divine. Here is how Eckhart puts it: |
It would mean little to me that the ‘Word was made flesh’ for man in Christ, granting that the latter is
distinct from me, unless he also was made flesh in me personally, so that I too would become the Son of God (Daughter of God, Wisdom of God). Eckhart links this insight directly to the following passage of the Scriptures which he cites

called God’s children, and that is what we are. (1 Jn. 3:11) Part of the passage of the Book of Wisdom invoked in the Christmas liturgy includes this phrase: “this people to be son of God.” (Wisdom 18:13). It follows that the “Son” or “Daughter” of God can refer to a group, not just to an individual. To be continued. |

Passion for Creation: The Earth-Honoring Spirituality of Meister
Eckhart Matthew Fox’s comprehensive translation of Meister Eckhart’s sermons is a meeting of true prophets across centuries, resulting in a spirituality for the new millennium. The holiness of creation, the divine life in each
person and the divine power of our creativity, our call to do justice and practice compassion–these are among Eckhart’s themes, brilliantly interpreted and explained for today’s reader. “The most important book on mysticism in 500 years.” — Madonna Kolbenschlag, author of Kissing Sleeping Beauty Goodbye.
Stations of the Cosmic
Christ This is a book of meditations on the Cosmic Christ, accompanying the images of 16 wonderful clay tablets by Javier Ullrrich Lemus and M.C. Richards. Together, these images and meditations go far beyond the traditional Stations of the Cross to inspire a spirit awakening and understanding of the cosmic Christ Consciousness, Buddha
consciousness, and consciousness of the image of God in all beings, so needed in our times. “A divinely inspired book that must be read by every human being devoted to spiritual and global survival. It is cosmically brilliant.” — Caroline Myss, author of Anatomy of the Spirit
The
Coming of the Cosmic Christ: The Healing of Mother Earth and the Birth of a Global Renaissance In what may be considered the most comprehensive outline of the Christian paradigm shift of our Age, Matthew Fox eloquently
foreshadows the manner in which the spirit of Christ resurrects in terms of the return to an earth-based mysticism, the expression of creativity, mystical sexuality, the respect due the young, the rebirth of effective forms of worship—all of these mirroring the ongoing blessings of Mother Earth and the recovery of Eros, the feminine aspect of the Divine. “The eighth wonder of the world…convincing proof that our Western religious tradition does indeed have the depth of imagination to reinvent its faith.” — Brian Swimme, author or The Universe Story and Journey of the Universe.
