The Sorry State of Tennessee and American Politics 04/11/2023 |
Hearing the news these days sometimes feels like we’re living in a swirl and whirlpool of Evil. One day it’s numerous grand juries investigating a former president trying to deny a duly
elected president his office and urging an invasion of the capitol which left six people dead and 150 cops seriously injured. |
And then his minions cheering him on as if nothing happened—140 of them being
elected legislators in the very building that was invaded; and another grand jury proposing 34 felony counts for paying off a porn star and covering it up; then interfering with election results in Georgia; and all the rest. | Marjorie Taylor Greene likens the arrest of the former White House occupant to the arrests of Jesus and Nelson Mandela. @thedavidpakmanshow |
We learn that kingpins at the biggest cable company in America
were spreading lies the country over about election fraud but knew all along that they were lying while raking in salaries of 30 and 40 million dollars per year to sell these lies. And owner Murdoch knew it was all lies also. |
MeidasTouch host Ben
Meiselas covers in depth the ProPublica report showing Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas’ receipt of millions of dollars in gifts and ultra-right activist access from a wealthy GOP donor. | And now a leading judge on the once Supreme Court has been taking bribes in the form of free luxury trips worth millions of dollars for 20 years without reporting them from a billionaire republican operative in whose company there sits the Opus Dei procurer Leonard Leo, the

most responsible for today’s theocratic court. We see three children and three adults murdered in a church school and the head of the Tennessee legislature saying we can do nothing about it while teenagers demand that they do. And expels two lawmakers who side with the kids from the legislature—who just happen to be young and black. This in the state that birthed the Ku Klux Klan. |
Where does it all stop, this whirlpool of evil? Where is it all headed? Is humanity so stupid that it cannot pause from whatever we
are doing and take a deep breath and remember that there is such a thing as good and evil. And we have to choose the good. “I put before you | Vice President Kamala Harris gives fiery speech after Tennessee lawmakers ousted. CNN |
life and death: choose life” say the Scriptures. Choice, choice, choice. Choice does matter. That’s what ethics is (or was). That’s what morality is (or was). We all make mistakes. But a society cannot survive without a shared commitment to the common good and a basic agreed upon ethics and morality. How to get
along? How to strive for community? How tell the truth—not lies—to each other as best we can? |

Sins of the Spirit, Blessings of
the Flesh: Transforming Evil in Soul and Society
Visionary theologian and best-selling author Matthew Fox offers a new theology of evil that fundamentally changes the traditional perception of good and evil and points the way to a more enlightened treatment of ourselves, one another, and all of nature. In comparing the Eastern tradition of the 7 chakras to the Western tradition of the 7 capital sins, Fox allows us to think
creatively about our capacity for personal and institutional evil and what we can do about them. “A scholarly masterpiece embodying a better vision and depth of perception far beyond the grasp of any one single science. A breath-taking analysis.” — Diarmuid O’Murchu, author of Quantum Theology: Spiritual Implications of the New Physics | |
