As I laid out in the Saturday DM on Opus Dei, what has happened at SCOTUS will happen with the presidency if Trump and Vance win. The same gang that gave us six Supreme Court judges who want to exonerate all presidents of crimes they commit in office, also want a far-right-wing Catholic VP one step away from the presidency. And they have it in JD Vance.

Consider this headline from The Guardian: “Kevin Roberts, architect of Project 2025, has close ties to radical Catholic group Opus Dei.” Roberts is hand in glove with Leonardo Leo, called the “third most powerful person” in the United States, the man who packed the unsupreme court with theocrats. 

Roberts is president of the Heritage Foundation and leader of Project 2025.  He has close ties and receives regular spiritual guidance from an Opus Dei-led center in Washington DC, a hub of activity for the radical and secretive Catholic group, say The Guardian reporters*. For years he has hung out at the Catholic Information Center on K Street, run by Opus Dei.

In this 2022 report, former MSNBC host Mehdi Hassan exposes Silicon Valley billionaire and Opus Dei supporter Peter Thiel’s bankrolling JD Vance’s early career.

In contrast to Biden’s and Nancy Pelosi’s life-long Catholicism, which is nurtured by Vatican II and its emphasis on social justice, Vance’s version of Catholicism, which he adopted five years ago under the mentorship of Opus Dei ally, billionaire Peter Thiel, is in tune with that of Roberts. 

Gareth Gore, author of the book Opus, which I reviewed in Saturday’s DM, says that both Opus Dei and Project 2025 represent a reactionary stand against the progressive drive of society. For decades now, the organization has thrown its resources at penetrating Washington’s political and legal elite—and finally seems to have succeeded through its close association with men like Kevin Roberts and Leonard Leo.

Leo praised the Opus Dei-linked Center in a speech in 2022 when he received its highest honor. In his speech he called his political opponents “vile and amoral current day barbarians, secularists and bigots” who were under the influence of the devil. Leo is frequently seen in photos relaxing

Kevin Roberts’ book on Project 2025, scheduled for release this Fall, was pulled at the last minute after Vance was nominated as vice president. It includes a Foreword by Vance in which he praises Roberts for articulating a genuinely new future for conservatism….We are now all realizing that it’s time to circle the wagons and load the muskets. In the fights that lie ahead, these ideas are an essential weapon.

Vance has repeatedly refused to say that Biden was elected president but has said that he would not have followed Vice President Pence and approved of electors in the 2020 election.

MSNBC anchor Joy Reid exposes the authors of Project 2025, a number of whom would be tapped for cabinet offices in a second White House tenancy by the First Felon.

Kevin Roberts gave a speech at the same Opus Dei center and has pushed Project 2025 with its agenda of restricting abortion and LGBTQ+ rights, dismantling the Department of Education, ending diversity programs and separation of church and state, gay marriage and contraception. It is Roberts 

who declared that this is a “second American Revolution, which will remain bloodless if the left allows it to be.”

Those who vote for Trump/Vance are clearly voting for Opus Dei and displacing a democracy with a theocracy. Is this really what Americans want?
